The paper diary, on phones.
It’s 07:12. The fridge reads 4°. Someone writes it down, maybe. By Friday the page is full of numbers in the same pen, Tuesday is blank, and the folder lives under the counter until somebody asks for it.
That paper diary has held kitchens together for years, and it was never designed to tell you who checked, or when. Daybook keeps everything that works about it (the same checks, the same rhythm, opening to close) and adds the two things paper can’t: a name and a time on every entry.
Built for the kitchen, not the office
Daybook is an iPhone app for independent cafes, restaurants, bakeries and pubs in the UK. Staff tap their face, enter their own PIN and sign each check as they do it. The office reads the week, and makes an inspection record for any dates in a few taps.
Every kitchen is set up by Daybook directly: its checklists, its fridges, its team. So the first time your staff open the app, it already looks like your kitchen.
What we believe
The person who did it signs it.
Not the manager at the end of the week. Not “the kitchen”. A name and a time on every entry.
Records are never quietly changed.
Mistakes happen. They’re fixed with a dated correction beside the original, so the record stays honest.
Kitchens don’t have perfect signal.
Checks save on the phone first. The walk-in and the cellar are part of the kitchen too.
Say only what’s true.
